My Disclaimer:

I am not a book critic, and I am not YET working in cybersecurity. This is my perspective as a student/career changer — the target audience of the book as described by the author — “If you purchased this eBook, then you fit in 1 or 2 categories: you are trying to get into cybersecurity or you are trying to transition into cyber from another career.” Hey ya’ll, that’s me!

Book-style and format:

I enjoyed reading the book as it is written in a conversational style. It is a PDF download, and each section in the Table of Contents is ‘clickable” which is handy for re-reading the sections. Cost — at the time of this write-up it costs $20.

The content:

The book gives you Henri’s background and a better understanding of his personal journey, it lends credibility to the book in that you know he has been on a similar journey. He lays out some of the common pathways into cybersecurity and gives the reader some tools and tips on how to build their own pathway.

Some of the topics include: resume building, LinkedIn profiles, job searching, and interviewing. This book does a great job of summarizing these topics. His insights as a personal career coach are particularly valuable, he doesn’t just tell you what to do (or not to do) he gives the reasoning behind his recommendations.

At the heart of it, I found Henri’s style to be realistic, yet encouraging. It means a lot to know that you are on the right path, or what actions you can take to reach your goals. While there’s no substitute for getting one-on-one guidance, the coaching tips in this book have got to be the next best thing.

Is this book for you?

If you’re researching how to get into cybersecurity you could watch several hours of conversations on what various people did to get into different jobs, or you could start here. But I think the author would agree that the most important thing is what you do after reading the book, use it as a guide and make an action plan.
